One question when we entered the PHL was: Were we up to the competition, which includes some of the best youth hockey in the nation?
The Titans16s proved the point that we belong. They totally dominated play, outshooting their opponents 29-8. A Trevor Heuser goal at the end of the first period was the lone goal for as time despite a continual onslaught by the Titans. The D killed off 10 minutes of penalties without allowing the Miners to generate much in the way of offense and Chris D'aLessio stopped all 8 shots to record his first league win and a shutout. RJ Steer scored from a Tommy Panico pass during a Titans powerplay which sealed the game in the third. A late goal by RJ completed the scoring.
The boys almost tasted victory yesterday, climbing back from a 3-1 deficit to the San Jose Sharks. They outshot their opponents 38-23, to evenutally tie the score at 3, but surrendered a late goal and then an empty netter. It is clear that the club can compete at this level and in front of the scouts and college coaches that are watching these events.
The 18s dropped 2 games Thursday, with close affairs against the Phoenix Firebirds 8-6 and the Queen City Steam 6-4. Matt Armenti has definitely made his mark, scoring 6 goals and 2 assists for 8 points in the 2 games. The competition continues through Sunday, so stay tuned
